Parents "Opt-in" to Receive Text Notifications

Parents should "Opt-In" to Receive Text Notifications from the District
Posted on 10/05/2019
Dear families,

The Acton-Boxborough School District is changing how text messages are being sent. This new method requires that you provide approval to continue to receive text messages from the schools.

On Friday September 27th, we sent a text message to the phone number(s) listed on your children's emergency cards seeking your approval to continue to receive text messages from the Acton-Boxborough Regional School District. ”Please reply “YES” to the text message. From then on you will be receiving all text messages from 87569.

If you didn't reply "YES", you will no longer receive text messages from The Acton-Boxborough Schools. At any point in the future, you can opt in simply by texting the word YES to 87569.

Why move to short code using the 87569 texting number?

  • Due to the FCC removing wireless phone companies’ SPAM-blocking restrictions, short code is the only practical way to have a reliable delivery of text messages: The number of texts using long code (10-digit originating number) that are entirely blocked is increasing quickly.
  • A short code number is not subject to the carriers’ SPAM blocking mechanisms, allowing us to communicate critical and time sensitive information without barriers.
  • All texts come from 87569, ensuring that short code texts are easy to recognize and remember, making it simple for recipients to immediately know that the text came from us.
  • With short code, we are able to send unlimited length text messages.
