Common Signs of Youth Mental Health Challenge
Caregivers and educators are often the first to notice when a child is struggling—whether it’s a change in mood, behavior, or classroom engagement. Because signs of distress vary by age, developmental stage, and temperament, they can be hard to spot. The Acton-Boxborough Regional School District and Cartwheel are committed to helping students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Through our partnership, Cartwheel offers timely access to licensed, community-based clinicians and provides evidence-based care for students and families.
Cartwheel has compiled the following common signs that a child may need additional support.
-
- Physical complaints (headaches, stomachaches) with no clear medical cause
- Clinginess, separation anxiety, or fear of being apart from caregivers
- Tantrums, acting out, or trouble managing emotions
